UNIVERSAL VALUES

Before going fully into the in-depth analysis of the term universal values, it is important that we establish the etymological origin of the two words that shape it:
• Value, comes from Latin and more specifically from the word “valere”, which can be translated as "be strong".
• Universal, for its part, also emanates from Latin. More exactly we can establish that it comes from the word "universalis", which is equivalent to "belonging to the universe".

Universal values

A value is a quality that gives people, things or facts an estimate . The term is used to name the moral characteristics that are inherent in a subject ( piety , responsibility , etc.).

Universal , on the other hand, is an adjective that is linked to what belongs to or relative to the universe. The concept refers to the set of all created things and that which is common to all of its kind.

These two definitions allow us to get closer to the notion of universal value . Universal values are formed by the implicit norms of behavior that are necessary to live in a harmonious and peaceful society.

It is an idea that is difficult to define, since a value is associated with morality and ethics , which is difficult to transfer to a group level. In other words: all people have certain values that arise from within and that guide their actions. Since not all human beings think in the same way, the values of one individual may differ from the values of the other. Universal values, on the other hand, have the particularity of being shared at the social level.

Cultural differences aside, it can be said that kindness, solidarity and honesty are desired virtues in any country or region. They are, therefore, universal values.

In addition to those exposed, other values of an ethical and civic nature are considered as universal values, such as the following:
• Modesty, which is the one possessed by people who do not show off their successes, their qualities or their triumphs. It is considered that, in this way, they do not harm others by making them feel inferior.
• Prudence. Another of the most important universal values is this one, which is the one that individuals have who always carry out their actions based on reason, and not being carried away by impulses. In addition to all this, it is considered that prudence is what should direct the rest of the values.
• Responsibility. No less significant within the set of universal values is this, which is considered to be the virtue possessed by those who are capable of making important decisions for themselves and for the rest of the people around them. Specifically, what they will do is coordinate, direct and direct activities with reasons, seriousness and commitment.

Loyalty or strength are also another of the universal values that are considered essential in any human being.

Universal values are acquired with family education and at school , since the socialization process implies that the new generations internalize timeless concepts.
