DISCRETE VARIABLE

Image
The variables are symbols that can acquire different values and appear in formulas, algorithms, functions and propositions of mathematics and statistics. According to their particularities, they are classified differently. There are random variables , dependent variables , independent variables , variables qualitative , quantitative variables and continuous variables , among others. This time we will refer to the discrete variables . It is interesting to know the etymological origin of the two words that give shape to the term that now occupies us: -Variable derives from Latin, more precisely from “variabilis” which is the result of the sum of two elements of that language: the verb “variare ", Which can be translated as" change of appearance ", and the suffix" -able ", which is used to indicate" possibility ". -Discrete, on the other hand, also comes from Latin. In your case, it is the result of the union of two other components: th...

DEPENDENT VARIABLE

Image
In the field of mathematics , a symbol that is part of a proposition, an algorithm, a formula or a function and that can take different values is called a variable . According to the way in which the variable appears in the function, it can be classified as dependent or independent . The dependent variable is one whose value depends on the numerical value adopted by the independent variable in the function. One quantity, in this way, is a function of another when the value of the first quantity depends exclusively on the value shown by the second quantity. The first magnitude is the dependent variable; the second magnitude, the independent variable. Suppose a person plans to take a car trip between London and Manchester . Both cities are 325 kilometers apart by road. The duration of the trip (which we can represent with the letter D ) will depend on the speed ( v ) of travel of the car. Duration, thus, is a variable dependent on speed, which is the independent vari...

DEPOSIT

When determining the etymological origin of the term deposit we have to make it clear that it is found in Latin. Specifically, it emanates from the verb iacere , which can be translated as "being stretched out." Archaeological site is the place where rocks, minerals, gases or fossils are naturally found ( geological site ), or the site where archaeological remains are found ( archaeological site ). Geological deposits are formations that present an unusually high concentration of geological materials compared to the rest of the earth's crust. Given the quantity and quality of the materials, a deposit can justify its analysis to determine the possibility of its commercial exploitation. Minerals, metals and hydrocarbons are some of the elements that can be found in deposits. For example: "They found an oil field in the Malvinas Islands" , "The discovery of an immense gold field changed the life of the people . " Archaeological sites, for their part, a...

DARN

The verb darning refers to the making of a seam to mend a fabric that is torn . When darning, the pieces are joined by stitches, trying to hide the arrangement. Another similar meaning of darning refers to the replacement of missing threads in a hole in a fabric through criss-cross stitches and joints. Darning, in short, aims to repair worn areas or breaks. It is possible to darn with a sewing machine or by hand . Darning is usually used when the opening does not occur along the seam and when the resolution of the damage with a patch is uncomfortable. For darning, the basic method is to anchor a thread on the edge of the hole , then cross the hole, and finally anchor it on the other side with a stitch or two. By repeating this process and weaving several threads over the hole, it can be covered. There are several implements that help to darn specific garments. One of the best known is the darning egg , which is used for darning socks or stockings. This egg , which can be made o...

DISTRESS

When it comes to establishing the meaning of the term anxiety, it is necessary for us to know, first of all, its etymological origin. And that supposes that we know that it is a word that derives from Latin and that it can be translated as "sinking". It is called anxiety to the act and the result of capsizing . This verb , on the other hand, can be used with reference to shipwreck, collapse, lose, fail or to feel insecure due to uncertainty. For example: "The case of corruption involving four ministers put the national government on edge" , "The Mexican company reported that its oil rig is at risk of capsizing due to an explosion" , "After the boxer's fall, there were moments of he worries in the stadium, but fortunately the fighter managed to recover ” . In the maritime field , the state of the wind or the ocean that puts vessels at risk is called distress , according to what is stated by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) in its dictionary. A sh...
