ZONE
The Latin word zone is where the concept that concerns us now comes from. However, it must be emphasized that this, in turn, has its etymological origin in the Greek and more exactly in the term ζώνη whose meaning was that of belt, girdle or girdle.
According to the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) , 'zone' is a noun that is used to describe both an important extension of surface that has the shape of a strip or band as well as the portion of a land or surface that is It is delimited , the territorial extension whose limits depend on questions related to politics and administrations and a strip or list .
From the perspective of geography, zones are each of the five portions into which the earth's surface is segmented as a result of the tropics and polar circles.
However, in this geographical sense we also have to underline that there are other criteria when establishing various areas of this type. In this way, it is common to speak of the Euro Zone or Eurozone, which is made up of all those countries of the old continent that are part of the European Union and that have carried out the adoption of the euro as the official currency.
This fact gives rise, therefore, to the creation of a monetary union of which a total of seventeen nations currently form part, including Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Portugal, Austria and Luxembourg.
In the field of geometry, on the other hand, by zone is understood to be that part of the surface of a sphere that is delimited by two parallel planes.
The concept also refers, in other contexts, to herpes zoster (also known as shingles), which arises when the virus that generates chickenpox is reactivated , a disease that is characterized by presenting itself in the form of small blisters that appear in different parts of the body around a dermatome and that usually hurt and itch.
As is evident, the notion of zone allows the development of multiple concepts. An urban area, for example, is a community made up of more than two thousand inhabitants, extensive infrastructure development and a preponderance of the secondary sector (industrial sector) and tertiary sector (focused on services).
A free zone, on the other hand, is understood as a geographical area that is reserved for industrialization for export purposes, in which customs legislation is applied differently or, directly, is not applied.
In the sports field, the term that we are now addressing is also very important. And more specifically in basketball. Thus, in this sporting discipline, for example, they speak of what is known as three seconds in zone. An expression is with which it is established that when you are attacking you cannot be more than that time in the opponent's restricted area.
In the same way, the scoring areas of the court are also discussed. These, which are located at different distances from the basket, are what determine that the successful shots of the players are worth 3, 2 or 1 point.
The erogenous zones, likewise, are those areas of the human organism that have a greater sensitivity than others and that are stimulated to sexually arouse an individual.
A red zone, finally, is the name given to a neighborhood, town or district when offered related businesses in their jurisdiction to the sex industry.
