XHTML

XHTML is an acronym of the English language that comes from the Extensible Hypertext Markup Language expression . In our language, this phrase can be translated as Understood Hypertext Markup Language.

These ideas belong to the field of computing and are specifically linked to the Internet. The XHTML is a language that adapts the HTML to the XML. In other words: it is an adaptation of the HTML language to be compatible with the XML language.

As you can see, to know what XHTML is, it is necessary to understand what the concepts of HTML and XML refer to.

The HTML is the language derived from the SGML , is used for creating web pages. Through this markup language, designers indicate how pages are developed. What the browsers that users use, such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer , do is interpret this content developed in HTML and display it in such a way that people can interpret it (such as text, images, etc.).

The XML also derived from the SGML and is used for data storage. This language (or metalanguage) makes it possible to define the grammar of various languages, contributing to the structuring of information and providing support to databases.

What XHTML does is make both languages ( HTML and XML ) compatible . In this way, it maintains most of the characteristics of HTML , although with elements of XML . The XHTML , therefore, provides greater robustness and adaptability, being important for the development of Web 3.0 thanks to its coding.

Other really relevant data about this word that concerns us now, XHTML, and that is worth knowing in order to understand its importance are the following:

  • It has the particularity that it can include other languages that are also very relevant such as SMIL, MathML or even the one that responds to the name of SVG.
  • In order to function optimally, it should be noted that elements such as lowercase labels must be present and used appropriately, which are attributes of values that appear in quotation marks, well-nested elements.
  • The labels that are used in this language that concerns us come to indicate the way in which the elements that shape a specific page have to appear.
  • The attributes that are also basic within XHTML, on the other hand, are responsible for determining what the aspect of the page in question is.
There are many advantages that using the language we are addressing is considered to have, to the detriment of others. Specifically, among the most significant are the following:
  • The documents created with it turn out to offer great performance.
  • It is kept very simple.
  • No less notable is the fact that it allows great ease when undertaking what is the direct edition of the code in question.
  • It is a language compatible with different standards.
  • Making use of XHTML allows you to use current tools that offer better performance than those of other languages.
