MANLY
In order to begin to discover the meaning of the term manly, the first thing to do is to know its etymological origin. In this sense, we have to state that it derives from Latin, since it is the result of the sum of two differentiated components:
-The noun “varo” - “varonis”, which can be translated as “virile” or “macho”.
-The suffix "-il", which is used to indicate quality or possibility.

Manly is that linked to the male : the human being whose gender is male . The manly, therefore, is associated with the characteristics of the man (as opposed to the woman) and what is strong, consistent or courageous.
For example: "This perfume has a masculine fragrance that is felt at a distance and persists over time" , "The national team finished in second place in the men's branch, while in the female category it was in eighth place" , " For the first time in history, the traditional Pan American championship will feature men's hockey ” .
This adjective is usually used when it is intended to highlight the particularities of a person that are typical of the male gender . Suppose a man has a very deep and thick voice: his voice can be said to be manly. This is because the female voice is generally high-pitched.
In a similar vein, someone with manly features may have a mustache, a prominent beard and eyebrows, a broad back, and heavily muscled arms .
Although over time what is considered to be manly has evolved and changed, we cannot deny that there are a series of traits that have been determined and that even today for some determine how a manly man should be or behave. With this we are referring to characteristics like these:
-It is established that he has to be chivalrous with women, carrying out actions such as opening the door for them to pass in front or getting up from his chair when the female with whom he is eating has to go to the bathroom.
-It must smell good.
-It has to be someone who cares about his family and his partner, whom he defends above everything and everyone.
However, to these qualities, as we have mentioned in recent years, others have been added. Thus, someone is considered to be manly if, in addition to what is indicated:
-It is cultured.
-He does not hesitate to take care of his appearance, so he exercises frequently.
-He knows how to cook and surprises his partner in that sense.
-Collaborate with household chores.
-He has no problem admitting that another man is handsome.
In the field of sport , the idea of manly is often used to refer to the disciplines in which men compete . This distinction is necessary when the same sport is practiced by both men and women. If a journalist must talk about the tennis tournament at Wimbledon , he can distinguish between the men's competition and the women's competition. In turn, a club can have a men's or men's soccer team and a women's soccer team.
