When determining the etymological origin of the term veda we have to go back in time. Specifically, we have to go to Latin because there we discover what word it comes from: vetare , a verb that can be translated as "prohibit by law."

Ban

Veda is the action and effect of vedar (prohibit something by law or mandate). The term is also used to name the space of time in which hunting and fishing are prohibited (prohibited) . In this sense, the ban is usually applied to avoid the depredation of natural resources and to allow the reproduction (and, therefore, the subsistence) of the animals.

For example: "Tomorrow begins the ban on silversides in Lake San Jorge" , "A Chinese ship was accused of violating the ban in US territorial waters" , "Fox hunting is banned in these lands . "

Nor should we forget the existence of the non-profit organization called VEDA, Volunteers in Defense of Animals, which has been operating in Bolivia since the 1990s.

The electoral ban is known as the period in which various legal prohibitions related to political propaganda apply in the face of the imminence of elections. The usual is that the electoral ban begins a few days before the vote and ends a few hours later, with the aim of leaving the necessary time for citizens to reflect and decide their vote without influence.

In the case of Spain, the electoral ban establishes, for example, that the campaign will last a maximum of fifteen days and that it must end in order to allow a day of reflection, during which no media will address any relative information. to political parties and their respective programs.

The electoral ban also tries to minimize the risk of incidents between militants of different political parties during the elections. Going to the voting center with party banners or holding public demonstrations in favor of the candidates is prohibited.

Another regulation of the electoral ban is the prohibition of the sale of alcoholic beverages , to avoid that voters can be tempted with alcohol and that, in this way, they end up without going to cast their vote because they are not in conditions.

Finally, each of the Sanskrit holy books that form the basis of the religious tradition of Hinduism is called a veda .

Specifically, these are the "layur-veda", the "rig-veda", the "sama-veda" and the "atharva-veda" which correspond respectively to the use of sacrifice, poetic reciting, chants and rituals.

In this sense, we cannot ignore the existence of a religion known as Vedism, which predates Hinduism and is based on these four documents. Around the 6th century BC it seems that it was when the end of that one took place, that it was very strict in certain aspects.

Thus, for example, it has been known that the maxim to comply with was that the aforementioned bans could only be transmitted orally. To such an extent the basic principle was the one that established that whoever put them in writing would suffer a terrible curse.
